Common Medicare Questions Answered Here

Your Medicare answers start here. Find solutions to the most common enrollment and plan questions. Still need help? I'm happy to personally assist you.

What is the cost for your services?

My services are completely free to you. I am compensated directly by the Medicare insurance company you choose once you enroll in a plan. My compensation is the same regardless of which plan you choose, ensuring you receive unbiased guidance.

What plans do you represent?

I am an independent, licensed insurance agent certified to offer ACA Marketplace Individual/Family plans , Medicare Advantage (Part C), Medicare Prescription Drug (Part D), and Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans from multiple carriers. I only offer plans from the carriers I have been contracted and certified to represent in your specific service area.

How does this work?

I begin with a confidential needs assessment to understand your doctors, prescriptions, and budget. Then, I compare the plans I offer in your area side-by-side to help you find the one that best meets your needs. I then assist with the enrollment process.

When can I enroll in a Medicare plan?

A: Enrollment depends on your specific situation. The main enrollment periods are:

* Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): When you first become eligible for Medicare.

* Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): Every year from October 15 to December 7.

* Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs): For people with specific life events (e.g., moving, losing coverage). Contact me to see if you qualify.

Do I have to enroll in a plan on the first call/meeting?

Absolutely not. Enrollment is a personal decision, and there is no pressure or obligation to enroll at any time. I am here to provide information and guidance.

What is the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage (Part C)?

Original Medicare (A & B) is run by the government and gives you broad access to doctors nationwide, but it has no yearly out-of-pocket maximum. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private companies and often includes Part D, plus extra benefits like dental/vision, and limits your annual spending (out-of-pocket maximum), but usually requires you to use a network of doctors.

What is Medigap (Medicare Supplement), and can I have it with a Medicare Advantage plan?

Medigap helps cover the costs (like copays and deductibles) left over by Original Medicare (Parts A & B). No, you cannot have Medigap and Medicare Advantage at the same time. You must choose one path: Original Medicare + Medigap, OR a Medicare Advantage plan.

Do I need a separate plan for my prescription drugs?

Yes, if you choose Original Medicare (even if you have a Medigap plan), you must buy a separate Part D Prescription Drug Plan. No, if you choose a Medicare Advantage plan, as most of these plans already include your drug coverage (MAPD).

Does Medicare cover dental, vision, or hearing aids?

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) generally does not cover routine dental, vision exams, or hearing aids. Most people get coverage for these services by enrolling in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, which often bundles these "extra benefits" into the plan.

Are there programs that can help me pay for my Medicare costs?

Yes, help is available for those with limited income and resources:

  • Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs): State programs that can help pay your Part B premium and other cost-sharing amounts.

  • Extra Help (Low-Income Subsidy/LIS): A federal program that significantly lowers or eliminates your costs for Part D prescription drug coverage (premiums, deductibles, and copayments).
